What do i need to start my 20 gallon tank?

hello, so i have a 20 gal. tall stand hood with light. i would love some knoledge on the basics of what i would need to get going? i am aware of gravel or sand.....i will be purchasing a master test kit....what oyther chemicals would i need to get the cycling process underway any advice would be appreciated.
